In our busy lives we forget to listen to what our kids may be subjected to, however it is critical for us to become aware of those programs or adult conversations that, when we don’t think they are listening, they may be soaking up like sponges. Also like a sponge they are not discriminate about content of what they absorb. Please be assured that those who wish to influence our kids are very aware of the fertile ground of those sponges.
Be minduful of not only the content of what they hear but also, the Tempo which can cause stress and even raise the blood pressure of our little ones. Turn down the vlolume which may increase pressure on fragile ear drums and lead to hearing loss.
Kids hear within context of what they already know, therefore certain words may be misunderstood by them and be construed as bad or good. Our english language is especially susceptible to misunderstanding as it has so many homonyms in it, such as bowl (container) or bowl as in the game of bowling. Others are arms (weapons), arms (upper limbs), bear (animal), bear (give birth to), corn (food, ear of corn), corn (thick horny growth on toe), down (opposite of up), down (feathers).
