When many people think about heroes, they think about the fictional characters in movies and books. However, the real heroes are those who dedicate their lives to helping others. Emergency responders are people who strive to help others. Just like the characters in comic books and the movies, emergency responders risk their lives to save others.
The sad thing is that emergency responders do not get the recognition that they deserve. These people often work long hours and they are usually not paid as well as others in the medical profession. Additionally, it can be quite stressful to deal with injured people on a daily basis.
In modern society, people uplift the wrong things by giving credit where credit is not due. Fictional characters are not the ones who should be called heroes. Again, a true hero is someone who risks his or her life to help another person. That is what an emergency responder does on a regular basis. It is time that these heroic people final get the credit and recognition that they deserve for their selfless acts.
It would be really cool to see a child walk up to an emergency responder and say “I want to be like you when I grow up.”
